Singapore's largest business plan competition, Start-Up@Singapore (S@S) is back once again with a bang! Having seen more than 2,000 teams and close to 7000 participants, some from countries as far away as Pakistan, Russia and Greece, S@S is all geared up to champion yet another decade of entrepreneurs. Now into its 13th year, S@S is known not only as a credible and competitive platform for ideas-pitching, but also for its staggering repertoire of resources. These include educational seminars, team building workshops, mentorship opportunities and networking sessions which help entrepreneurs make the breakthrough transition from paper to product.

Mr Alan Phua is the Co-Founder of Soyato Ptd Ltd, an organisation committed to making a new form of premium and healthy frozen dessert made of soymilk. This frozen dessert tastes as good as ice-cream but still boosts the benefits of soy, providing protein and calcium for the body.  

Mr Phua is a business management and finance graduate from Singapore Management University. 

Mr Phua, along with his Co-Founder Ms Verleen Goh, is the proud winner of 11th Start-Up@Singapore Business Plan Competition.

Mr Teo Ser Luck

Minister of State,  Ministry of Trade and Industry

Mr Teo Ser Luck is currently Minister of State for the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI). Prior to his political career, Mr Teo held management positions in multinational companies for over ten years. He lead DHL Express (Singapore) Ptd Ltd. 

 He was recognised as a young global leader by the World Economic Forum in 2007 for his contribution to the business and community services sectors, receiving accolades as an outstanding manager in operational excellence.

 Mr Teo has always been committed to providing a voice for the youth. He became chairman of the National Youth Council and also the Chairman of the Young PAP, the youth wing of the People's Action Party. He led Singapore’s successful bid for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) to be held in 2010 and was an advisor to the Singapore 2010 YOG Organising Committee.

Co-Founder and Managing Director,  Timbre Group Pte Ltd

Mr Edward Chia is the Co-Founder and CEO of Timbre Group, one of Singapore's fastest-growing and most successful live music-bar businesses. While still studying at the National University of Singapore, Mr Chia envisioned F&B outlets that showcased local and upcoming musical talents. Now at the young age of 27, he runs 11 different brands of music, food and beverage (F&B) outlets, ranging from cocktail bars to music festivals, delivery and catering services and even a music academy.

 Mr Chia has also been an active youth and arts activist and is the founder and chairman of Arts for Us All (AFUA), a registered non-for-profit organisation primarily seeking to promote active involvement and awareness of the Arts by Singaporean youth. He is also the Managing Director of Ublues Group, an event and artiste management company.  

 Behind the successful entrepreneur lies a man passionate about music. For Mr Chia, it’s about making the music industry profitable for local musicians and reaching underprivileged communities through the arts.

Mr Karl Chong

Founder, Beeconomic

CEO, Groupon Singapore

Mr Karl Chong, Founder of Beeconomic and CEO of Groupon Singapore, is a finance guru turned entrepreneur. He carved a highly successful career in investment banking and private equity at Macquarie Bank, New York City. Prior to that, he was associated with world renowned organisations such as Proctor & Gamble and UBS Investment Bank in Australia. 

Mr Chong graduated from the University of New South Wales with a double degree in Commerce and Laws. Halfway through his masters at INSEAD, he dropped out to form Beeconomic, one of Singapore's fastest growing Internet start-ups.  Beeconomic Singapore is one of the early entrants in Singapore for group discount buying and is widely regarded as the one of the most popular group-buying sites in Singapore. The company was recently acquired by the US based group discount website Groupon. 

In addition to his corporate expertise, Mr Chong is a featured personality on Chnel News Asias Millennials. He was also featured in Singapores Her World magazine's "50 Men We Love" in Singapore list.
