ELIGIBLE PARTICIPANTS
Lenovo is calling coders and students to build applications that can be added to the Android Marketplace and the Lenovo App Shop.
THE CHALLENGE
Competitors will be tasked to create applications on the Android platform for the new Lenovo IdeaPad Tablet K1 or the ThinkPad Tablet.
On the day of the event we will inform you of the type of application that can be developed. (Note: This is to prevent folks from coming in with pre-made apps!)
JUDGING CRITERIA
Applications will be judged by a panel of experts on the following:
- Creativity - How unique if your app?
- Usability - Is your app simple and easy to use?
- Functionality - What exactly does the app do?
- Lenovo friendly - Does your app tie into any of Lenovo's IdeaPad Tablet K1 or ThinkPad Tablet features?
PRIZES
The Grand Prize will be a cash prize of S$3,000 plus two Lenovo Tablets, with an additional Lenovo Tablet awarded as a special prize for applications that are developed for Lenovo customers.
Winners will also have an opportunity to work directly with MobiHand, leading distributor of software and content for mobile devices, to publish their application to the Lenovo App Shop.
ADDITIONAL INFO
In order to make sure you're comfortable and have enough energy to code throughout the night, we will be providing you with the following:
- Meals (high tea, dinner, supper and breakfast)
- Snacks (savory and sweet)
- Beverages (sodas, juices, tea, coffee, energy drinks, etc.)
- Lounge area to take a quick nap in if you need it!
QUESTIONS
In case it's helpful, check out some of the questions we've recieved below!
- Will Lenovo provide the development machine along with required SDK and IDEs? You will need to bring your own laptop and have the choice of which IDE you would like to use. We will provide you with a link to the Android SDK where you will find all the information you need to develop the Android application.
- Are there any rules and regulations related to this event? We will be posting all the Rules & Regulations within the coming week on www.flickevents.com/lenovodotheextrordinary so stay tuned!
- Will we be given references if we need to. (especially internet, Android SDK API, or Android developer website)? WiFi will be available at the event and we will provide you with as much information as possible for developing applications on the Android platform. You can find the Android SDK here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html.
- Can I form teams? Yes! You can form teams of up to 5 pax. Once you arrive at the event you will be asked to inform us who will be on your team. Registration can be done individually.

IdeaPad Tablet K1: Open the Box and Play

ThinkPad Tablet Brings Android to Business
The ThinkPad Tablet combines the superior media and entertainment experience of the IdeaPad Tablet K1 with the security, reliability and manageability features ThinkPad is known for, to create the first true business-class tablet. Designed as a companion computing device for professionals on the go, the ThinkPad Tablet includes an optional digitizer pen, a full-size USB port, full-size SD card slot, and mini-HDMI for connecting to external projectors and displays, as well as an optional ThinkPad quality Keyboard Folio Case with optical TrackPoint.

Hu Shunjie is the Usergroup Manager for the Singapore Flex Usergroup (FUG), a community with a common interest in Adobe Flex, Flash technology and Actionscript development, and organizes monthly meetings for the group. He currently works at Google as their Rich Media Specialist, managing innovations for Flash and HTML5 rich media campaign for Asia Pacific. Prior to that, he works as a Front-end developer for Seesmic, a company that produces social networking management tools for the web, desktop, and mobile devices.

Topic: Andorid Security: How Secure is your APK?
Hean Hong graduated from Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) with a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science with (2nd Class) Honor. Upon graduation, he has been working in CNET as a software engineer. His job scope includes development and maintenance of large Content Management System (CMS) for several countries (Southeast Asia, Japan, French, and UK). Multi-talented, Hean Hong is familiar with web, server and mobile development, and has developed applications on iPhone and Android. He is also one of the key pillars behind CodeAndroid Malaysia, and has outreached to developers in many technology and developer events. At Stream Media, he is in charge of managing projects and overseeing the whole project delivery.

Chua Zi Yong, CEO, Stream Media Pte. Ltd.
Chua Zi Yong is one of the pioneers of the Android developer scene in Southeast Asia. He is the CEO of Stream Media, the company that built MoVend, an in-app payment system for mobile phone to help mobile developers earn money through micro-transactions.
Zi Yong has extensive experience in engaging developers to assist them in dealing with different layers of the mobile ecosystem, from mobile operators and handset manufacturers to distributors in Asia. Stream Media aggregates and publish mobile apps through mobile social network, operators and OEM stores. Zi Yong also founded CodeAndroid back in 2009, to better engage developers from Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand
Subhransu Behera, Senior Software Engineer, HCL Singapore Pte Ltd
Subhransu is a Senior Software Engineer at HCL Singapore Pte Ltd working on mobile application development. APPLICATIONS
- Applications must be developed for the Android platform.
- On the day of the event you will be informed of what type of applicaitons can be developed.
- You will be required to inform Lenovo of the type of application you/ your team will be developing within one hour of registration.
- All applications MUST be developed during the event. All pre-made applications will be disqualified.
- Applications that are pornographic, racist or offensive in nature will be disqualified.
- Applications will be judged on creativity, usability design and functionality.
- All applications remain your property.
TEAMS
- You can develop an applicaiton on your own or with a team of up to 5 pax.
- If you will be working with a team, you will be required to inform Lenovo of your team members during registration on the day of the event.
- No team changes can be made once names are submitted.
CODING
- Coding can begin at 2 PM on 16 September 2011 and final submissions will be due by 9 AM on 17 September.
- Participants are free to move around the venue during the 24-hour period, but need to be present at the starting and ending times and can only leave for a maximum of 15 minutes.
